Amy’s Donuts gets a Sweet Start to 2021 after being vandalized on Christmas
Local businesses coming together creates a pretty sweet ending to a disastrous 2020.
Tucson Foodie is reporting that Amy’s Donuts, which is almost always open every day of the year, closed up on Christmas day, only to discover that the building had been vandalized while they were out.
“Times have been really hard on us this year. We’ve done our best to stay positive and try to make it through. It’s not easy to stay open. We’ve seen many of our fellow small businesses close down. But we keep pushing, doing this not only for us but for our staff and all of you who have made this worth fighting for! Which is why it was extremely discouraging to find someone had vandalized our store right on Christmas Day!

With a year like the one we’ve all been experiencing, it’d be hard for any local business to add this kind of disappointment to its days. Soon after the incident, Amy’s Donuts posted the following on Facebook:
“The curfew has been detrimental to our sales and now to add the costs of the damages, it’s a lot. We have made it thus far with all of your support and we hope to keep our doors open serving this great city for as long as possible.”
Since the news spread about the vandalism, the community either showed up virtually and in-person for the doughnut shop, expressing their love and concern on Facebook, Instagram, or by stopping in to buy a decadent pastry.
Despite the obstacles, it’s hard to keep a sweet destination down, as local businesses stepped up to put Amy’s Donuts back in business. On January 1, 2021 Amy’s Donuts posted this:
“The support we have received has been incredible!! Many thanks to everyone who’s come to show us support!! We’d like to give a very special shout out to Richard Main from Vista Glass! When he saw what happened, he reached out to us and offered his services! We’re very grateful for him and his company because we have working doors again! They did excellent work! Let’s keep supporting small businesses!
