April’s Substandard Job Gains, Arizona Unemployment Still Drops to 6%

Arizona’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped two-tenths of a percentage point from 6.2% in March to 6.0% in April.  The U.S. seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped one-tenth of a percentage point from 5.5% in March to 5.4% in April.  A year ago, the Arizona seasonally adjusted rate was 6.9% and the U.S. rate was 6.2%.

Arizona added 2,200 Nonfarm jobs (0.1%) over the month in April. Over the year, Arizona’s Nonfarm employment increased by 60,600 jobs (2.4%) in April.

Tucson MSA decreased -1,000 Nonfarm jobs (-0.3%) over the month in April. Over the year, Tucson Nonfarm employment has increased by 4,000 (1.1%) in April.

Phoenix MSA added 1,400 Nonfarm jobs (0.1%) over the month in April. Over the year, Phoenix Nonfarm employment has increased by 51,300 (2.8%) in April.

Flagstaff MSA added 1,200 Nonfarm jobs (1.8%) over the month in April. Over the year, Flagstaff Nonfarm employment has increased by 2,300 (3.6%) in April.

Yuma MSA decreased -1,300 Nonfarm jobs (-2.5%) over the month in April. Over the year, Yuma Nonfarm employment has decreased by 1,000 (-1.9%) in April.

Prescott MSA added 500 Nonfarm jobs (0.8%) over the month in April. Over the year, Prescott Nonfarm employment has increased by 2,600 (4.4%) in April.

Lake Havasu MSA decreased -100 Nonfarm jobs (-0.2%) over the month in April. Over the year, Lake Havasu Nonfarm employment has remained unchanged (0.0%) in April.

Sierra Vista – Douglas MSA decreased -100 Nonfarm jobs (-0.3%) over the month in April. Over the year, Lake Havasu Nonfarm employment has increased by 200 (0.6%) in April.
