Arizona Builders Alliance appoints Hensel Phelps’ Steve Grauer as 2021 Chairman

PHOENIX, Arizona – On February 19th, the Arizona Builders Alliance (ABA) nominated Steve Grauer of Hensel Phelps as the organization’s 2021 incoming Chairman. In his role, he will facilitate discussions with the board of directors, utilize their direction and support to ensure consensus on industry issues and challenges, and help the organization achieve success in 2021.
“Steve’s leadership is unique.” ABA President Tom Dunn said. “His experience nationally and internationally is extremely valuable to the ABA membership at this critical point in time. He understands how to do business the right way throughout the world. Nationally, there are regulations and policies that may be enacted that will affect what happens in Arizona and Arizona’s construction economy. With Steve’s knowledge, we will be able to inform our membership as to why Arizona’s construction economy is prosperous and why we need to advocate to keep it that way.”
Grauer’s career has taken him to jobs in 10 different states and five different countries. His experience in other parts of the nation and world have taught Grauer valuable lessons about what the construction industry needs to watch closely when it comes to policies and regulations, something that will be a high priority for him as ABA Chairman.
“Arizona is the best place in the country to work, in my opinion,” said Grauer, who has been active in the ABA for 17 years. “The amount of growth that’s happened here is pretty significant and the types of companies that relocated here value innovation. We should appreciate what we have here, value it, and fight to keep it. That’s why I want our ABA members to get involved and get engaged.”
Grauer said another high priority for him is to continue the focus on workforce development, something that the outgoing ABA Chairman, Dan Puente of DP Electric, was passionate about. Grauer will continue to build on workforce alliances with groups such as Build Your Future Arizona, as well as encouraging more involvement from ABA members in internal efforts like the Young Builders Council, the Leadership Development Forum and other committees.
“These are great opportunities to get our members involved and it gives us a chance to see who is going to rise to the occasion and be the next leaders of the organization going forward,” Grauer said.
In addition to naming Grauer as the new Chairman, the ABA announced three new members of its Board of Directors. Joining the ABA board in 2021 are Kim Davids of The Weitz Company; Rudy Garcia of RG & Sons and Jay Layton of TDIndustries.
Grauer joined Hensel Phelps in 1990 and has served in various roles with the company during his tenure, including field engineer, office engineer, project engineer, area superintendent, operations manager and now serves as the Western District Manager and Vice President. He is also on the Hensel Phelps Board of Directors. In his current role, Grauer oversees Hensel Phelps’ Western District, which is made up of Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada.
