PHOENIX (September 8, 2025) – The Arizona Fall League (AFL) has announced a series of community-focused initiatives that will begin this season, expanding the league’s community engagement efforts through literacy, the arts, and youth outreach programming.Known throughout baseball as the finishing school for Major League Baseball’s future stars, the AFL is focusing on Arizona youth by introducing four major initiatives designed to deepen the league’s connection with fans and families throughout Arizona through reading, the arts, and music.
The 2025 initiatives will include:
HomeRun Readers: Turning Pages into Playoffs
The HomeRun Readers program invites elementary school students to take part in a 7- or 9-week reading challenge tied directly to the excitement of the AFL season. Students track their progress using custom-designed bookmark trackers, and those who complete the program are rewarded with tickets to marquee events like the AFL Home Run Derby or the Tripleheader at Kino Sports Complex. The program is already active in schools in Tucson and across the greater Phoenix area. Draw the Pros: Where Imagination Meets the Infield
Draw the Pros puts the creative power in the hands of young artists. Elementary-aged students are invited to reimagine photos of AFL players using crayons, markers, and colored pencils. Selected drawings will be featured on team social media, used as official "player headshots" during games, and even showcased at stadiums throughout the season. This initiative not only fuels creativity but also gives kids a direct connection to the game on the field.
Hometown Harmonies: Music at the Ballpark
Hometown Harmonies is the AFL’s new umbrella series highlighting youth choirs, orchestras, and musical ensembles from across the Valley and beyond. Piloted by events like Grand Slam Symphony and Voices on Deck, this program invites school and community groups to perform at AFL games — from the national anthem to full pregame sets. It’s a celebration of both local talent and community pride.
Building a Legacy of Community
Beyond these programs, the AFL continues to grow its community outreach footprint, partnering with schools, afterschool programs, local nonprofits, and Title I districts to create experiences that are impactful both on and off the field. From student showcases to family nights, from literacy initiatives to visual art exhibitions, the AFL is committed to creating space where baseball becomes a bridge – connection, creativity, and opportunity.
