PIMA COUNTY (September 15, 2025) -- Pima County is partnering with Visit Tucson on a number of events as part of Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs Sept. 15-Oct. 15.
The month-long festival — ¡Viva Tucson! — celebrates the food, music, art, and traditions of Hispanic culture, all integral to the very DNA of southern Arizona. The celebration is multi-faceted, featuring a range of activities from art exhibits and concerts to a roasted chile festival. To celebrate the month’s activities, Pima County will light the dome of the Historic Courthouse, 115 N. Church Ave., with the colors of the Mexican flag Sept. 15. The dome of the Pima County Historic Courthouse will be lighted with the colors of the Mexican flag in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.
The Historic Courthouse will feature free concerts every Friday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Courtyard beginning Sept. 12. Concerts will be offered weekly, with some exceptions, through Memorial Day 2025. The first four concerts will celebrate ¡Viva Tucson! “¡Viva Tucson! offers an opportunity for all to celebrate the invaluable contributions of Hispanic culture to our entire community, and we are excited to see this celebration continue for many years to come,” said Diane Frisch, director of Pima County Attractions and Tourism.
In addition, the Pima County Public Library has a number of activities on tap, including learning how to paint a Folklórico dancer, a Mes de la Cultura family storytime, and a craft session on papel picado (traditional Mexican decorative tissue paper sheets). Readers will also find dozens of Nuestras Raíces offerings to choose from to celebrate the month.

Hispanic Heritage Month was established in 1968 by President Lyndon Johnson and takes place from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 each year. Sept. 15 is the anniversary of independence for many Latin American countries, with others celebrating their independence on the 16th and 18th.
