CVS Health Expands into Chandler, hiring 700

CVSHEALTH_400x77_primarylogoPhoenix Business Journal reports CVS Health (NYSE: CVS) is expanding its East Valley footprint into a 120,000-square-foot service center along the Price Corridor in Chandler.

The company is in the middle of hiring 700 advanced business service employees for its first Southeast Valley facility.

Jeff Lackey, vice president of talent acquisition for CVS Health, said the expansion is a customer care center dedicated to serving customers with specialty medications, such as injectables or medications delivered in non-traditional methods. The company is hiring pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and customer service representatives skilled with helping customers with these special needs.

The new center is located north of the Loops 101 and 202 interchange near the General Motors Innovation Center.

“We have an extensive training program because everyone is involved in assisting customers with high-level health treatments,” he said. “These are not typical questions, they are complex transactions between CVS and the customer. We need a special kind of person.”

Lackey also said CVS Health was aware of the education levels in the Southeast Valley.

Roc Arnett, retiring president and CEO of East Valley Partnership, said his organization’s data show the highest education attainment levels in the Valley are in the East Valley.

The Price Corridor location was selected over other sites and cities because of the available workforce. That area of Chandler has been a center for technology companies, advanced manufacturing and financial services. CVS will be one of the few health care companies in the area.

“We wanted to hire workers in that area, and make it more convenient for their commute,” said Lackey. “This is a good location for us to set deeper roots in the Valley.”

Including its retail stores and Minute Clinics, CVS has over 9,400 employees in the Phoenix area. More than 4,300 are in Scottsdale.

CVS’ move is another example of what Greater Phoenix Economic Council President and CEO Chris Camacho calls “Phoenix’s scale-up economy.”

Camacho said GPEC has been seeing a number of firms come into the Valley with several hundred initial employees, and then hire significantly more.
