Dutch Bros Acquires Clutch Coffee Bar, Bringing the Brand to 20 Locations Across North Carolina
All Clutch locations to close January 16 and reopen as Dutch Bros following renovations
TEMPE, Ariz. / MOORESVILLE, N.C. (January 16, 2026) — Dutch Bros Coffee, the fast-growing drive-thru coffee company headquartered in Tempe, Arizona, announced it has acquired Clutch Coffee Bar, a North Carolina-based coffee chain with 20 locations statewide. The acquisition marks Dutch Bros’ first and expands the brand’s footprint in North Carolina.
Clutch Coffee Bar locations will operate under the Clutch name through January 16, after which all stores will temporarily close for an unspecified renovation and transition period. Each location will reopen as Dutch Bros Coffee.
Founded in 2018 in Mooresville, North Carolina, Clutch Coffee Bar was established by Darren Spicer, who previously served as a Dutch Bros store manager in 2014. In a statement posted on Clutch Coffee Bar’s website, Spicer said the decision to transition the Clutch brand was made thoughtfully and that Dutch Bros is positioned to accelerate Clutch’s mission without compromising its values.
“As a fellow brand built on human connection, we see strong alignment in values and believe this acquisition provides a meaningful opportunity for our team members and customers to benefit,” Clutch Coffee Bar stated. “Dutch Bros’ track record of incredible quality, speed, service, and local impact allow this transition to be rooted in shared purpose, not just growth.”
Clutch Coffee Bar operates four locations in North Carolina’s Triad region, including Greensboro (1405 Sunset Drive), Winston-Salem (5709 University Parkway and 289 S. Stratford Road), and Clemmons (2432 Lewisville Clemmons Road). When the stores reopen under the Dutch Bros banner, they will represent the first Dutch Bros locations in the Triad. Dutch Bros recently opened a North Carolina location in the Triangle region in December in Morrisville (971 Morrisville Parkway).
As of the third quarter of 2025, Dutch Bros reported 1,081 locations across 24 states, including 90 in Arizona. The company has also signaled continued expansion, with leadership noting plans to open more stores in 2026 than the 160 locations planned in 2025. Dutch Bros reported net income of $27.2 million on revenue of $424 million for the quarter.
Dutch Bros is known for its high-energy drive-thru experience and customizable specialty beverages, and the company said the transition will allow it to bring that model to additional North Carolina communities while creating new opportunities for team members and customers.
Headquartered in Tempe, Arizona, Dutch Bros operates more than 1,000 locations across the United States.
