Tucson, AZ—Elva De La Torre, host of KXCI’s popular and eclectic Friday night program “The Wire Service” and a former board member of the station, has joined KXCI’s staff in a new role focused on engaging the diverse perspectives of Tucson and Southern Arizona.
De La Torre will be working with community and civic organizations along with community leaders to discover, understand, and address local needs and aspirations. She will also be developing an outreach plan for KXCI that will foster the opportunities a community radio station presents by identifying, empowering, and cultivating potential volunteers to take an active role in creating the community radio station they want in Tucson.
“I’m elated to join the staff at KXCI,” enthuses De La Torre. “Having served the organization in various volunteer roles gives me insight into KXCI’s values. I’m inspired to work with the local community to reach new audiences, better understand how we serve Tucson and Southern Arizona, and how we can best reflect the dynamic and diverse community that helps us thrive. As independent media, KXCI holds a unique place in Tucson’s heart. My goal is to deepen that connection and broaden how we serve our community.”
Via her tenures at a range of local non-profit organizations, as well as Pima Community College and the Peace Corps, De La Torre brings with her more than fifteen years of experience managing, administering, and developing community-based education and training programs. She has more than five years on-air programming experience, in addition to outstanding presentation and facilitation skills with varied and multicultural audiences. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Media Communications (Radio and Television) from California State University.
“Elva is a wonderful addition to KXCI,” says KXCI Executive Director Cathy Rivers. “Her past work and commitment for the betterment of our community is truly an inspiration. Elva will add to KXCI’s mission of not only connecting the communities of Tucson and Southern Arizona but allow us to reach out and provide more community service than ever before.”
