Fostering a PACC dog can mean $5/day

PIMA COUNTY, (Oct. 17, 2024) – Beginning Friday, Oct. 18, anyone fostering a dog that’s 40 pounds or larger for at least two weeks will be eligible for a $5/day stipend up to $70, thanks to Friends of Pima Animal Care Center, PACCs non-profit partner.

Thanks to Petco Love, Fosters will also receive a free crate. The offer runs through Sunday, Nov. 3.

PACC currently has 523 dogs in the shelter, 69 more than it cared for at the same time last year. Its goal is to have 475 dogs in the shelter by Nov.3rd.

Pima County residents or those with a valid Pima County address, who are 18 years of age or older, are eligible for the foster incentive.

PACC also needs fosters willing to take a dog, even just for a day or overnight, to give them a break from the stressful shelter environment. Any notes fosters can provide to PACC help those animals get adopted faster. Fosters taking dogs just for a day or overnight are not eligible for the $5 incentive.

PACC’s Director, Monica Dangler, said she was hopeful the monetary incentive and crate would encourage people to try fostering.

“I’m so grateful that we have partners willing to assist us in creative ways to incentivize fostering,” said Dangler. “I’m convinced that once people realize how rewarding fostering a pet can be, they’ll be hooked. You really can’t put a price tag on the joy of helping an animal in need.”

Those interested in fostering or adopting should come to PACC during open hours.  All dogs and puppies are currently free to adopt and are microchipped, spayed or neutered, and come with age-appropriate vaccinations.  A $20 licensing fee applies to adult dogs.

PACC is located at 4000 N. Silverbell Road and is open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from noon to 7 p.m., on Wednesday from 1:30 – 7 p.m., and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. PACC is active on Facebook and Instagram, where daily updates are posted about the shelter’s status, promotions, and adoptable pets.
