TUCSON, ARIZONA, April 7, 2023 -- Clint Wadlund and his team at IPA were awarded the Best-in-Class Award by Trend Report last year for his work in the Tucson 100+ Units in Multifamily market. We asked Clint to tell us about his successes and how he got to where he is today in the competitive business of 100+ Multifamily sales.
This is what Clint had to say:
Tell us how you began in Commercial Real Estate.
I am blessed to have a father, Art Wadlund, who introduced me to Commercial Real Estate.
How long have you been doing what you’re doing?
Approximately ten years.
What tips do you suggest to someone just starting in your business?
I emphasize tenacity, work ethic, coachability, and patience to young brokers.
What can you tell us about winners in your field?
“Winner” is an interesting term, as the RE market has ups and downs. What does it take? True winners have grit and perseverance.
Tell us about a teacher/mentor who affected or set you on your path.
As mentioned, I am blessed to have a father who is undoubtedly one of the best brokers in the country and who was a fantastic mentor.
What is your greatest career accomplishment?
Although selling the most significant single multifamily asset and largest multifamily portfolio in Tucson are significant accomplishments, I find the most fulfillment from successfully closing challenging transactions with multiple hurdles to overcome. In addition, working in the “trenches” with sellers and buyers alike fosters great relationships and repeat business.
What was your most recent biggest challenge faced that you overcame?
We had multiple escrows in the middle of 2022 while the market began to experience headwinds. Each transaction experienced unique challenges. However, we negotiated many of the hurdles and continued to close deals.
What is the most important question to ask a Buyer or Seller these days?
Regarding potential sellers, I believe in creating partnerships in the capacity that I can offer them my expertise on the market and operations. Any question I ask is tailored to benefit the principal. Regarding potential buyers, I try to treat everyone with respect. I don’t ask many questions as my workplace requires legitimacy.
What do you ask Lenders?
I ask lenders to keep me informed throughout the sales process and promptly answer my calls/emails.
What is the most common type of client you typically work with?
I work with private capital, syndicators, and institutions.
What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about my family.
What motivates you the most?
I believe my purpose is to help others. Real estate allows me the opportunity to work with many people and affords me the ability to provide for my family and community.
Is there one deal that stands out in your mind from last year that you would like to do again? And why?
No, it may sound cliché, but I enjoy each deal for unique reasons and, more importantly, the people involved.
Where do you see the Market going this year?
We will experience a slow 1Q, but transactions will begin to accumulate during the second half of the year.
Thank you, Clint.
