Jason Wong, CCIM, Nominated for Father of the Year Award

TUCSON, (Jan. 26, 2024) –The Father’s Day Council Tucson, an all-volunteer executive board, comprises leading members of our community. Each year, they honor individuals whose achievements and values enhance the meaning and status of Father’s Day.

In an age when the traditional family unit is taking on renewed focus, Father’s Day Council Tucson seeks to reinforce family values and enhance the role of fathers in our society by honoring men who have mastered the balancing act of career, fatherhood, and civic involvement.

Among this year’s Father of the Year nominees is Jason Wong, CCIM, Director, Commercial Development at Red Point Development.

“What a surprise I received when George Larsen asked to meet the morning before a Southern AZ CCIM meeting,” said Jason. “Steve Rosenberg and George announced that I had been nominated as one of six 2024 Fathers of the Year by the Father’s Day Council.”

Father’s Day Council Tucson has a dual mission. The first is to identify and honor men who have proven extremely successful in their chosen fields and serve as outstanding role models in our community. The second and equally important mission is to raise funds for type 1 diabetes (formerly known as juvenile diabetes) research and endowment at Steele Children’s Research Center at The University of Arizona. Since 1994, Father’s Day Council Tucson has donated nearly $4 million for research in type 1 diabetes.

“The cause of type 1 diabetes is unknown, but autoimmune disease, genetics, exposures to virus, and environmental factors are possible causes,” Jason commented. “As a registered pharmacist, I know raising funds for diabetes research is a worthy cause. My goal is to raise $50,000.”

Approximately three million Americans have type 1 diabetes and each year, more than 15,000 children and 15,000 adults, nearly 80 people per day are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in the U.S. The rate of type 1 diabetes incidence among children under the age of 14 is estimated to increase by 3 percent annually worldwide, and 85 percent of people living with type 1 diabetes are adults. The Angel Wing for Children with Diabetes at the Steele Children’s Research Center takes care of more than 700 patients with type 1 diabetes ranging in age from newborn to 21 and is the only pediatric clinic in Southern Arizona that is completely devoted to children with diabetes and other endocrine disorders.
