LL Flooring store closing 94 stores across 31 states

Earlier this summer, Big Lots and Conn’s HomePlus were among the other retailers filing for Chapter 11

(August 14, 2024) — Premier flooring retailer LL Flooring Holdings, Inc. has announced that it is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and will be closing 94 of its stores across 31 states. The flooring store operator, headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, is the latest national retailer to announce a significant reduction to its physical footprint.

LL Flooring was founded in 1993 and is a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker LL. On Sunday, the company announced it had begun voluntary Chapter 11 reorganization proceedings. Its CEO, Charles Tyson, said “a challenging macro environment” was to blame.

The company operates over 400 stores across 47 states, but as part of the bankruptcy procedures, it will be closing 94 of those locations in 31 states. In a FAQ detailing the bankruptcy proceedings, LL Flooring said it plans to continue operating the over 300 remaining stores as normal.

California and Texas are the hardest-hit states for store closures, with 11 closures each.

LL Flooring says the closing locations will open throughout the closing process. It says sales at the closing locations will be held through September.
