PIMA COUNTY, (Feb. 9, 2024) - For those looking for snuggles and love this Valentine’s Day, Pima Animal Care Center is hosting a special event Feb. 14 featuring free adoptions on all pets. For the day, PACC will offer extended hours at the shelter, 4000 N. Silverbell Road, from 1:30 to 8 p.m.

PACC leadership recognizes that many families have specific needs or wants in a pet. In an effort to help make those matches, PACC’s counselors will have lists prepared highlighting pets who meet a variety of different criteria, including dogs who fall under certain weight limits, pets who have lived with cats, dogs, and children, and dogs who prefer a couch potato lifestyle.

“It’s almost like doggy speed dating,” said Katie Hutchinson, PACC’s outcomes manager. “We’re hoping that offering a fun, late-night event and giving a chance for some of our overlooked dogs to shine will result in more pets finding homes this Valentine’s Day.”

Looking for puppy love instead? PACC’s mobile adoption unit, the PACCmobile, will be stationed at the front of the shelter, full of multiple litters of adoptable puppies.

PACC is currently at critical capacity and has more than 480 dogs and 100 cats available for adoption. All pets, including puppies and kittens, will be free to adopt at Wednesday’s event. A $20 licensing fee may apply for adult dogs. All pets adopted from PACC are microchipped, spayed or neutered, and up-to-date on vaccinations.

PACC’s normal hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from noon to 7 p.m., on Wednesday from 1:30 – 7 p.m., and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Adult dogs require a $20 licensing fee. To learn more about available PACC pets and services, please go to www.pima.gov/animalcare
