TUCSON, Arizona - The Metropolitan Pima Alliance (MPA) is celebrating its 20-year anniversary with a new Board of Directors and mission statement.
Chairman Kevin Hall, Principal of Cypress Civil Development, stated, "As MPA has grown and progressed the past two decades, it is important the mission statement reflects the evolution of the organization." The new statement reads:
"MPA works to create a prosperous community by promoting collaborative real estatedevelopment policies, building partnerships and finding common ground."
MPA has a long history advocating to remove barriers to responsible land development through working with all impacted parties and settling differences through compromise. MPA actively works with development service departments, City and Town Managers and elected officials on policies like general plans, design criteria, economic incentives and development fees and processes.
As part of MPA's organizational development and to better represent her role, the Board of Directors has promoted Amber Smith to Chief Executive Officer. Other changes in the last year include adding 8 new Board members to provide more MPA members with opportunities to take on leadership roles in the community.
To further celebrate, MPA's 2017 Wild Ride event, taking place on April 20, will focus on the past, present and future of development in Pima County focusing on the Southeast's rapidly developing Aerospace Research Campus and surrounding area. The Wild Ride, presented by Meritage Homes, is a windshield tour featuring expert speakers, behind the scene looks, and public and private sector networking. Over a dozen projects will be featured on the tour giving special nods to past MPA Common Ground Award finalists and winners. The Wild Ride and Common Ground Awards are MPA signature events that educate on the importance of the real estate and development industry for the overall economic climate of our community. The Common Ground Awards honor those that collaborate with unlikely parties to overcome obstacles for the betterment of a project or the community. Common Ground nominations are accepted throughout the month of May every year.
Land use and development is the foundation for economic development. MPA will work the next 20 years advocating, enacting and celebrating collaborative solutions for sustainable growth, development and redevelopment for the benefit of the community and region.
