High-protein meals will support Local Feeding Organizations
TUCSON, ARIZONA (Oct. 7, 2022): The Outreach Program and Sponsors will be at the Muslim Community Center of Tucson, 5100 N Kevy Pl, Tucson, AZ 85704 on Sunday, October 16th, 12:30 pm to package 50,000 high-protein meals to support Local Feeding Programs.
For a number of years, Catalina United Methodist Church has organized and lead this Multi Faith Event to feed the hungry in Southern Arizona and beyond. Seven Faith Based communities will band together to pack and deliver this nutrition to those who need it most in the Tucson Community Southern Arizona, and beyond.
This unique Multi Faith event demonstrates that spiritually diverse communities can join together for a cause important to all and collaborate to fulfill that need in our world.
More than 150 volunteers will work together on a hands-on assembly-line style project, reaching their goal of 50,000 meals in less than 2 hours. The nutrient-dense, shelf-stable, protein-rich, and easy to prepare meals are formulated in collaboration with Iowa State University’s Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition.
“With nearly 200,000 people in Tucson relying on some sort of food assistance, our goal is to help provide local feeding organizations with enough nutrition to meet the needs of the people they serve,” says Chris Romero, West Coast Regional Manager for The Outreach Program. “By bringing volunteers together to package these meals, we hope to inspire more volunteerism and remind people of the impact they can have in just a couple of hours.”
Founded in the Midwest, The Outreach Program was the first to engineer the meal packaging process back in 2004 and has since helped volunteer groups across the country package and donate over 675 million meals to domestic and international feeding organizations.
