PIMA COUNTY, (Jan. 5, 2024) – Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) and the Humane Society of Southern Arizona (HSSA) are hosting a joint adoption event from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6. Adoption fees for all pets at both shelters will be waived during the weekend event.
The week following New Year’s Eve is a busy time for animal shelters, which see increased numbers of stray pets come into their care following the noisy – and often frightening – firework displays. Both PACC and HSSA are currently at or above capacity.
"With both of our shelters filled with pets looking for a best friend, now is the perfect time to start the new year by supporting your local animal shelter through adoption or fostering an animal in need,” said Jose Ocaño, interim Chief Operations Officer for HSSA. “This is a great collaboration with PACC, and we hope the community will support finding these animals forever homes.”
Pets will be available at PACC, 4000 N. Silverbell Road, as well as at HSSA, 635 W. Roger Road. Adoptable dogs will also be available at HSSA’s location at Park Place Mall, 5870 E. Broadway Blvd., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. All pets adopted from either shelter are up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and spayed or neutered. A $20 licensing fee may apply to adopted dogs.
“We’re excited to co-host this event with HSSA,” said PACC’s Director of Animal Services, Monica Dangler. “We want to kick off the new year right and work together to find more Pima County pets homes.”
