PIMA COUNTY, Dec. 8, 2022 - Pima Animal Care Center and Best Friends Animal Society are teaming up for a holiday adoption extravaganza Dec. 9 – 11 that will promote pet adoptions among a variety of partners. The collaborative weekend-long event encourages people to open up their homes to adoptable animals by choosing to adopt, not buy, their next pet.
Pima Animal Care Center will celebrate the National Adoption Weekend with events throughout the weekend while also highlighting adoption events happening at other agencies. Friday, Dec. 9, will mark a collaborative event with PACC and several rescue partners at the Arizona Beer House, 150 S. Kolb Road, from 4 to 7 p.m. Organizations will bring adoptable dogs and information about fostering and ways to support the groups.
On Saturday, Dec. 10, from noon to 3 p.m., staff and volunteers from PACC will be at the Petco at 5625 E. River Road, with friendly adoptable pets. Those interested in adding a new pet to the family are encouraged to come meet them.
Adoptions will be ongoing throughout the weekend at the shelter. All adoption fees are currently waived for pets adopted from PACC. Six featured long-term resident dogs, including Marco (pictured), will receive a gift basket of dog items and a gift card for the adopter when adopted. In addition, Best Friends will donate $25 for each cat and $50 for each dog adopted to the shelter.
“There’s no better way to spread cheer this holiday season than to adopt or foster a shelter pet in need,” said Julie Castle, CEO of Best Friends Animal Society. “By adopting a best friend, you’re giving one lucky dog or cat a home as well as creating space for another pet to be rescued. That means you become a lifesaver to two animals in need and there’s no better gift than that.”
Monica Dangler, PACC’s Director of Animal Services, said that PACC typically sees a decrease in the number of animals in the shelter at this point in the year, but that has not happened yet this year.
“We have so many great dogs and cats that are just waiting for their chance,” said Dangler. “The events taking place on Best Friends National Adoption Weekend are a great opportunity for the public to meet adoptable pets in multiple places around Tucson and find a new best friend.”
PACC is open from noon to 7 p.m. on weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. A $20 licensing fee applies to adult dogs. See all available pets and services at www.pima.gov/animalcare.
