Urban 148 Apartment Community in North Central Phoenix Sells for $24+ Million

Urban 148Colliers Handles Sale and Arranges Financing for the Purchase

Phoenix (October 14, 2025) — Urban 148, a garden style apartment complex located at 1609 W. Glendale Ave. in North Central Phoenix, has sold for $24,050,000. Chicago-based 29th Street Capital purchased the property from Phoenix-based Urban Communities.

“The buyer was able to acquire the Urban 148 significantly below replacement cost with positive leverage and strong operations due to the infill location, lack of affordability in the submarket and lack of new supply due to zoning and density limitations of immediate area,” said Chris Roach, vice president with Colliers. “The seller invested capital into renovating the interiors and the buyer plans to invest significant capital into roofs and exterior deferred maintenance that had recently accrued due to the seller’s high interest rate debt. Colliers mortgage used their leverage as a DUS lender to originate best in class agency financing for the buyer.”

Roach, Brad Cooke, Matt Roach and Cindy Cooke of Colliers handled the sale transaction. Financing for the purchase was provided by Shahin Yazdi and Jonthan Lee Colliers Mortgage Los Angeles in partnership with Luke Donahue and Patrick O’Donnell Colliers Mortgage Phoenix.

“We were pleased to provide another best-in-class execution for our institutional repeat client, leveraging collaboration and the depth of our capital markets platform and team,” said the Colliers Mortgage Team. “The fixed rate financing at 80% of acquisition price was one of the first full leverage agency acquisition loans funded in Phoenix this cycle.”

Urban 148, constructed in 1974, contains 148 apartment units across 12 two-story buildings on a 5.18-acre site. The community offers large two- and three-bedroom floorplans averaging 1,023 square feet. Amenities at Urban 148 include a clubhouse, kitchen and dining room, yoga studio, playground, picnic area, sparkling pool, and grill station. Located near 15th and Glendale avenues, Urban 148 features an exceptional infill location with strong surrounding demographics. The property is just one block from Valley Metro Rail and within minutes of Interstate 17.

Tucson Ranked #1 Western City for Gen Z in 2025

Western City for Gen ZCommercialCafe study highlights the Old Pueblo’s youthful momentum, affordability, and climate leadership.

(October 14, 2025) — Tucson is officially the #1 large city in the Western United States for Generation Z in 2025, according to a new national ranking by CommercialCafe.

The study — which analyzed every U.S. city with more than 400,000 residents — evaluated affordability, educational enrollment, job opportunities for recent graduates, recreation, and green-commuting options. While Minneapolis took the national crown, Tucson led all Western metros, outranking Denver, Seattle, Portland, and Phoenix as the top destination for the region’s next generation of professionals.

Young, Connected & Growing

CommercialCafe’s data shows that 10.8% of Tucson’s population is between ages 20 and 24, the highest concentration of young adults among all cities surveyed. That youthful foundation reflects both the University of Arizona’s statewide influence and the growing number of young professionals choosing to stay and build careers locally.

“Zoomers relocating here have higher chances of connecting with others of similar ages and priorities,” the report notes — citing Tucson’s robust social infrastructure of coworking hubs, coffeehouses, local music venues, and outdoor recreation. The city’s expanding startup scene, affordable creative spaces, and accessible public transit make it a natural magnet for digital-native talent.

A Standout for Livability

Tucson’s affordability index of 114.6 (roughly 14.6% above the national average) still ranks far below the living costs of Los Angeles, Seattle, or San Diego — offering what the report calls a “balanced lifestyle proposition” for young workers eager to save money without sacrificing experience.

For a generation that values both freedom and flexibility, Tucson delivers: diverse job opportunities in healthcare, education, tech, and logistics; lower average internet and transportation costs; and a rich network of “third places” — parks, restaurants, and local gathering spots that foster community connection.

Sustainability at the Core

A key reason Tucson earned the top Western spot is its leadership in climate resilience. The city’s Resilient Together Climate Action Plan is cited as a landmark framework for sustainable urban development — tackling energy transition, water conservation, and equitable neighborhood design.

For Gen Z, whose values are shaped by environmental urgency and social responsibility, Tucson’s proactive stance offers more than policy—it signals purpose.

The Takeaway

CommercialCafe’s findings reinforce what Tucson’s civic and business leaders have long recognized: the Old Pueblo’s combination of affordability, authenticity, and opportunity makes it a standout for the nation’s youngest working generation.

Tucson isn’t just adapting to Gen Z — it’s becoming their model city for how to live, work, and build sustainably in the American West.
