Perfection Bakery Building in Armory Park Historic District sells for Renovation
Once Perfection Bakery and more recently a 12-unit apartment, 719 S 4th Avenue in Tucson was purchased by David and Marina Yoakum of Tucson for $248,000 ($48. PSF). Built in 1923, the 5,159-square-foot building sold with major work needed including fire damage. Intact however, was the beautiful wall mural at the front of the building.
Helen Curtis of Realty Executives Tucson Elite represented the buyer in the transaction.
Curtis told us, the buyers purchased it to renovate the 12-units back to a unit-mix of studios and one-bedroom units. A former bakery building, it is also a contributing structure to the Historic Armory Park District. All units face a central courtyard, and have their own bathrooms and kitchen areas, about half the building had been fire damaged at time of sale.
Research on the history of the building did not yield much information other than the anonymous yet artistic mural on the front that reads ‘Perfection Bakery est. 1929 ‘. The history of Tucson is fascinating. There are more than 500 murals throughout downtown Tucson. People have been living in what is now the Tucson area for more than 4,000 years, making it one of the oldest continually occupied regions in the United States. Each wall mural are part of this history, and each have a story to tell.
