TUCSON, Arizona -- Pima County is reaching out to property owners near the Benson Highway corridor who might qualify for assistance under the Brownfields Program, which seeks to spur community and economic revitalization on Tucson’s South Side.
This program encourages property and business owners to take advantage of funds provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to assist in addressing potential environmental issues that might hinder reuse, redevelopment or sale of their property. Brownfields often are sites once home to gas stations, manufacturing plants, storage lots, junkyards or industrial facilities that may have polluted the property.
Brownfields Program services include environmental site and underground storage tank assessments, asbestos surveys and lead-based paint testing.
Outreach teams from Pima County and partner organizations will be in the field, working directly with Southside neighborhoods, local businesses, real estate professionals, and lenders to plan and implement regulatory incentives and financial programs to assist businesses and create jobs. There is no charge to participate in this program.
The Pima County Brownfields Program has helped over 60 property owners in investing and programming over $400,000 and the EPA has handed out over $20 billion since the program started in 1995.
The Southern Arizona CCIM Chapter will be presenting an Overview of the Brownfields’ Program Grants at its upcoming Monthly Luncheon, Tuesday, May 9th from 12:00 to 1:15 pm. Check-in begins at 11:30 am to begin presentation promptly at noon.
