PIMA COUNTY, May 5, 2023 – The Pima County Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 at its May 2 meeting to approve the Public Participation Plan for the Pima Prospers 2025 Comprehensive Plan update.
Pima Prospers, which was approved in 2015, is a long-range, forward-looking blueprint for how Pima County will continue to grow over the next 10-20 years. The adoption of the Public Participation Plan is the first step, per state law, to updating the Pima Prospers 2025 plan, which will serve as the official policy and land use document for the Board of Supervisors, the Planning and Zoning Commission, and County staff.
Comprehensive plans address coordinated land use, infrastructure, conservation, and economic development for the County, and are required to be updated every ten years. The Public Participation Plan also will guide County staff to facilitate effective, early, and continuous communication with key members of the community in shaping the comprehensive plan update.
“The 2025 update to the Pima County Comprehensive Plan will only be as good as the input and feedback we receive from the community at-large,” said Mark Holden, long range principal planner for the County’s Development Services Department. “The Public Participation Plan will provide effective, early and continuous participation from citizens, landowners, businesses and stakeholder groups, from a broad range of geographic regions of the county, to help create a better overall plan.”
Updating Pima Prospers will be an approximately 18-month process that includes public meetings, both in-person and virtual, on a wide range of topics to inform the 2025 comprehensive plan update.
