Terracon announces trio of Senior Associate appointments

TEMPE, ARIZ. (July 26, 2024) – Terracon is proud to announce it has promoted Louis D. Braun, P.E.; John Griffin, PLS, ASLA; and Tod Whitwer, P.E., to Senior Associates at the consulting engineering firm that specializes in environmental, facilities, geotechnical, and materials services.

Terracon’s Senior Associate/Principal Program is designed to recognize and reward employees whose leadership helps fulfill the firm’s “purpose of exploring beyond the surface” commitment as a leader on safe, profitable growth while modeling Terracon’s core values.

The role of a Senior Associate includes significant contributions beyond “daily responsibilities” in terms of leadership in advancing the company in areas such as technical capability, client experience, employee experience, and community.

Braun is a Senior Engineer in Terracon’s Tucson office. He possesses 12 years of experience in the geotechnical field and serves as an Authorized Project Reviewer for geotechnical engineering services.

Braun’s project experience includes performing geotechnical assessments on numerous city and county roadway and bridge projects, military installations, parks, animal care facilities, educational institutions, commercial and industrial projects, numerous energy projects including large solar, and transmission line projects.

Whitwer is a Regional Services Manager in Terracon’s Phoenix office with 32 years of environmental, regulatory compliance, and engineering experience. He is skilled in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Brownfields grant program, having written more than 40 grant applications, which resulted in more than $8 million in funding for municipal, county, tribal, and redevelopment agency entities. He has also managed several grant programs.

Whitwer prepared the first Coalition Assessment grant awarded to an Arizona entity (City of Flagstaff, 2013) and the first Multi-Purpose grant awarded to an Arizona entity (White Mountain Apache Housing Authority, 2019). His project experience includes more than 1,000 Phase I/II ESAs and asbestos surveys acting as Principal or Environmental Professional.

Griffin is a landscape architect and project manager at Terracon’s Phoenix office. He has over 18 years of experience providing design, planning, and construction administration services for streets, trails, parks, flood control facilities, multi-use and utility sites, and commercial and residential developments.

Griffin’s project experience involves all levels of planning and design, including visual and land-use studies, master planning, site analysis, conceptual project design, final design and construction documentation, construction administration, public involvement, and the development of presentation graphics. In addition to traditional landscape architectural services, his design experience continues to emphasize finding and implementing value-added opportunities to deliver projects that uniquely respond to their physical and cultural environments while providing in-budget results.
