TUCSON, ARIZONA – The building at 1809 E 23rd Street in Tucson sold for $345,000 ($60 PSF) from Sam H Doung and MaiTrinh Tran of Tucson. It will be the new home for Tucson Clay Co-op run by Maxine Krasnow.
This 5,723-square-foot building, built in 1979, was originally a Boarding / Rooming House & Dormitory that was later used as an alcohol rehabilitation center. It has a very large multi-stall, multi sink bathroom with attached shower area and two separate private baths. The building has a commercial kitchen that was last licensed for 2018. Zoned industrial, it also had an occupancy permit for retail sales for the Rehab center.
The new owner-occupant, Tucson Clay Co-op, is a community-based cooperative created to provide a professional working environment for all level artists. Supporting the work of local and visiting potters by renting affordable studio space, maintaining a gallery where members may sell their work and running a school which offers a diverse selection of clay classes. The space provides a place for the community at large to learn and develop appreciation of the ceramic arts. Community outreach includes events such as workshops with guest artists as well as classes for groups with unique needs.
Patrick Teske of Tierra Antigua represented the buyer and seller in this transaction. In fact, this is the third time Teske has sold this property, twice before, in 2019 and 2020.
