TUCSON, AZ (April 14, 2026) — Tucson International Airport and the University of Arizona gave Wildcat fans a spirited sendoff as they departed for the Final Four in Indianapolis, turning the airport into a red-and-blue celebration point ahead of the team’s national semifinal appearance.

Travelers on Southwest Airlines’ 11:30 a.m. nonstop flight from Tucson to Indianapolis were greeted by a Wildcat-themed transformation of the ticket counter and departure gate, reflecting the surge of hometown excitement surrounding Arizona’s Final Four run.

Southwest added the special nonstop flight on Monday after demand for travel from Tucson to Indianapolis surged. The flight sold out almost immediately. A return nonstop was scheduled to bring fans back to Tucson on the morning of Tuesday, April 7. Airport officials also said many connecting flights from TUS to Indianapolis saw heavy demand.

“We continued to grow our partnership with the University of Arizona and celebrated its renowned basketball program. TUS was the airport for Wildcat fans and for the entire University of Arizona community,” said Danette Bewley, president and CEO of the Tucson Airport Authority. “In addition to this sendoff, we all looked forward to welcoming our Wildcats and their fans back home victorious as well.”

“This was a proud moment for the University of Arizona and Tucson community,” said Johnny Cruz, chief communications and marketing officer at the University of Arizona. “As our team competed for a national championship, we were grateful for our strong partnership with the Tucson Airport Authority in creating an experience that reflected the energy and pride of Wildcat fans. That Bear Down spirit was a defining part of Arizona and was on full display as our community traveled to Indianapolis.”

Arizona’s appearance marked the program’s fifth trip to the Final Four, adding to a tournament history that includes the Wildcats’ 1997 national championship and multiple deep NCAA Tournament runs over the past four decades. The team had already secured a program-record 36th win during the season, making the trip to Indianapolis another milestone in one of the most notable seasons in Arizona basketball history.

The celebration at TUS reflected more than excitement over a game — it was a community’s way of thanking the Wildcats for a remarkable season and for making Tucson proud on the national stage!
