In support of a citywide environmental initiative, the Tucson Association of REALTORS® (TAR) will give their headquarters at 2445 N. Tucson Blvd in Tucson a “green retrofit” that focuses on water harvesting, native shade trees, and reducing heat gain in its 53,000 square-foot parking lot.
TAR CEO Philip Tedesco said the project is being taken on in support of Tucson’s 10,000 Trees Campaign that was launched by Mayor Jonathan Rothschild in October.
“Architects and builders understand the important role of rainwater harvesting and tree shading to make houses more sustainable and to reduce operating costs. The same principles apply to commercial buildings like our headquarters,” said Tedesco.
“Water is our most precious natural resource and something that too many people take for granted, especially since we all live in such a dry community. When combined with efficient tree shading, this project will result in long-term environmental and financial benefits,” he added.
To celebrate the green retrofit, TAR and Watershed Management Group (WMG) will host a Community Demonstration Workshop on Green Infrastructure Retrofit. The event, which includes voluntary tree planting, will be from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., Sat., Nov. 16 at TAR, 2445 N. Tucson Blvd.
