US Secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm, Traveling to Western states this week

WASHINGTON, D.C.—On Monday, May 22, through Wednesday, May 24, 2023, U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm will travel to the Mountain West states of Colorado, Arizona, and Idaho to promote more than $470 billion in private-sector investments sparked by President Biden’s Investing in America agenda. The Secretary will make a series of announcements and participate in meetings and tours of U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) facilities. 

In Colorado, Secretary Granholm will join U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper, Governor Jared Polis, and National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Director Martin Keller for an announcement of funding that will accelerate the expansion of NREL’s campuses in Golden and Arvada. The Secretary and Governor will also participate in the dedication of the laboratory’s Research and Innovation Laboratory (RAIL), a part of the broader expansion of NREL’s Golden campus that will include the South Table Mountain Energy Park (STEP) and the adjacent, State of Colorado-run Global Energy Park, a planned hub for private industry. 

In Arizona, Secretary Granholm will join U.S. Senator Mark Kelly for a tour of Li-Cycle’s facility in Gilbert. The Secretary will then visit the Heard Museum in Phoenix to make an announcement related to DOE’s efforts to deploy clean energy technology in tribal communities and enhance tribal energy sovereignty. She will be joined by leaders from the Hopi Tribe, San Carlos Apache Tribe, and Navajo Nation. 

In Idaho, Secretary Granholm will make a major announcement following a tour the Idaho National Laboratory, participating in the ribbon-cutting for the Biomass Feedstock National User Facility. She will be joined on the tour by Laboratory Director John Wagner, Associate Laboratory Director for Energy and Environmental S&T Todd Combs, and DOE-ID Site Office Manager Lance Lacroix.
