Walmart East Wetmore Marks Official Supercenter Conversion Sept. 2

TUCSON, ARIZONA (Aug. 28, 2026) — Walmart will celebrate the conversion of its East Wetmore Road store into a full-service Supercenter on Wednesday, Sept. 2, expanding the location to include groceries, pharmacy services and additional shopping options.

The store at 455 E. Wetmore Road was Tucson’s last remaining Walmart general merchandise location. Following the conversion, customers can now purchase fresh groceries, fill prescriptions and complete a full weekly shopping trip at the property.

The upgraded Supercenter includes an expanded fresh grocery department with produce, meat, dairy and frozen foods, along with a new deli and bakery. Walmart also updated the pharmacy with an additional private consultation room and expanded merchandise selections in automotive, fashion, consumables and health and wellness.

Online Pickup and Delivery capabilities have also been enhanced, including Walmart’s InHome delivery service.

Walmart will mark the opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 2 featuring the University of Arizona mascot and cheer team and the Tucson Magnet High School Badger Cheer Team.

A community celebration will follow from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. with cooking demonstrations, product sampling, giveaways and fashion and home presentations. Additional events include a 5 p.m. cooking demonstration with Chef Maria Mazon, a 6 p.m. fall fashion showcase and a live performance and meet and greet with Latino recording artist Luis Coronel from 6:45 to 8 p.m.

The first 250 eligible customers attending the opening will receive a $25 Walmart gift card while supplies last. Participants must be at least 18 years old and present valid identification. Walmart associates are not eligible.

Store Manager Brian Schield, Walmart associates and local community leaders are expected to participate in the grand opening activities. Other scheduled guests include Maria Mazon, Nancy Fulkerson and Los Angeles based private chef Jess Taye.

The newly converted Walmart SuperCenter is located at 455 E. Wetmore Road in Tucson.
