Sahuarita, Ariz. (October 25, 2024) — Members of Rancho Sahuarita joined with longtime community homebuilder, Lennar and non-profit organization Helping a Hero on October 1st to celebrate the groundbreaking of an adaptive home for U.S. Army veteran Sergeant Tanner House. The home is part of the Helping a Hero 100 Homes Challenge. It has been specially adapted to meet his unique mobility needs following a severe spinal injury sustained during his military service in Afghanistan.

Sergeant House, who was injured during a resupply mission, has faced numerous challenges in his transition to civilian life, including homelessness. His new three-bedroom, two-bathroom home will be fully equipped with wider doorways, a roll-in shower, and other accessibility modifications. This home will provide him with the freedom to live independently and safely while continuing his mission to help fellow veterans heal through outdoor activities.

"This home is a dream come true," said Sergeant House.

"We are deeply honored to welcome Sergeant Tanner House to our community. His story of resilience and dedication to his fellow veterans is inspiring, and we are proud to be part of this effort to provide him with a home where he can thrive,” said Jeremy Sharpe, Managing Partner of Rancho Sahuarita. “This partnership with Lennar and Helping a Hero exemplifies our shared commitment to creating a community that supports and celebrates our veterans."

"Tanner's courage, both in and out of uniform, exemplifies the resilience of our nation's veterans. It is our honor to provide him with this adaptive home, and we are deeply grateful to Lennar, Bass Pro Shops, and Patryot Charities for their support in making this home a reality," said Meredith Lier, Founder of the Helping a Hero Home Program.

The Helping a Hero 100 Homes Challenge, led by Johnny Morris, Founder of Bass Pro Shops, invites individuals and businesses to support building adapted homes for wounded veterans of the Post-9/11 Global War on Terror. Sergeant House’s new home in Rancho Sahuarita is a step in achieving this goal, offering him the stability and independence he deserves.
