PIMA COUNTY, ARIZONA – After a year on hold due to the pandemic, “Clear the Shelters” is back at Pima Animal Care Center. The month-long series of events kicks off Aug. 23 and will end Sept. 19 with a big celebration.
“We are very excited to have this adoption event happening at PACC!” said Monica Dangler, Director of Animal Services. “This event couldn’t come at a better time with the shelter being so full.”
The shelter is currently experiencing an influx of large dogs and needs of adopters and fosters for those pets. The lack of space is due to a variety of reasons, including lost pet reports because of monsoon weather, dogs that prefer to be solo in the kennel, and an influx of animals that are part of Animal Protection Services investigations and can’t be adopted right away.
Each week of “Clear the Shelters” will feature a different adoption promotion that will be announced on social media every Monday during that timeframe. The week of Aug. 23 kicks off with every animal in the shelter offered for a $0 adoption fee, including puppies and kittens. There will be several opportunities to meet foster pets and some of PACC’s long-stay pets.
The shelter will be holding these four events in the Multipurpose Room:
- Foster Fair on Aug. 29, 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
- Long Stay Lounge on Sept. 4 and Sept. 5, 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
- Foster Fair Sept. 12, 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
“Clear the Shelters” will end with a Party at PACC on Sept. 19. There will be giveaways, food trucks such as Cookie Addicts, and much more. Prizes will include cat trees, kennels, toys, treats, etc.
Pima Animal Care Center is open Monday to Friday, noon to 7 p.m., and 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. To see a list of available pets and services, head to pima.gov/animalcare.
