Construction Begins on 500,000 SF Premier Shopping and Entertainment Destination
Buckeye, AZ (December 13, 2024) – Haydon is excited to announce the groundbreaking on Verrado Marketplace, a dynamic new retail, dining, and entertainment center designed to serve the growing community of Buckeye, Arizona. Haydon is the general contractor overseeing the construction of this dynamic open-air destination, set to open in 2026. Phoenix-based developer, Vestar, is the owner and developer of Verrado Marketplace, which will stand at the entrance to DMB Associates’ 8,800-acre Verrado master-planned community.
The project marks a significant step for the city of Buckeye as national retail giants, including Target, Harkins, Safeway, Marshalls, Ross and HomeGoods, commit to bringing their stores to Verrado Marketplace. Anchored by these prominent retailers, the development will feature a 147,000-square-foot Target and the debut of Harkins’ newest “BackLot” concept in Arizona, a 75,000-square-foot entertainment space with a luxury movie theater, restaurant, bar, sports-viewing arena, arcade, bowling alley and private event spaces.
"As we begin construction on Verrado Marketplace, our focus is on creating a space that fosters community connection and economic growth," said Matt Carpenter, Haydon’s Chief Operating Officer and Partner. "This project represents a collaborative effort to build a lasting, vibrant gathering place that will elevate the Buckeye community for years to come."
The 500,000-square-foot $275 million development, strategically located with visibility from Interstate 10, will bring not only shopping and entertainment but also an array of dining options, neighborhood services, and lifestyle amenities. Inspired by other successful Vestar projects like Desert Ridge Marketplace and Tempe Marketplace, Verrado will feature spaces for socializing, including a central lawn and a state-of-the-art performance stage known as "The District," perfect for concerts, community events and family gatherings.
Haydon is also proud to integrate sustainable building practices at Verrado Marketplace, supporting Vestar’s GreenSTAR program with energy-efficient materials, solar power, water
harvesting systems, LED lighting, EV charging stations and more. These initiatives will contribute to a healthier environment and long-term operational efficiency.
When completed, Verrado Marketplace will not only be a premier shopping and entertainment destination but also a significant economic driver for the area. It is projected to generate nearly 1,500 permanent jobs and deliver over $50 million in tax revenue to the City of Buckeye over the next decade.
Haydon is honored to contribute to Buckeye’s growth with this transformative project, which reflects our commitment to enhancing Arizona’s communities through quality construction and collaborative partnerships.
