PIMA COUNTY (June 3, 2026) -- In honor of Small Business Week from May 3-9, 2026, Southwest Flavor Podcast and the Pima County Small Business Commission proudly spotlight four local business owners whose passion, resilience, and commitment to community continue to shape Southern Arizona in meaningful ways.

These businesses represent more than products and services — they represent mentorship, grit, innovation, and heart.

Building Careers Through Opportunity

ZTech Automotive — Owner: Dallas Zamorano

For Dallas Zamorano, automotive repair is only part of the mission. Through partnerships with Flowing Wells High School and JTED, Dallas is helping shape the next generation of skilled trades professionals.

His commitment to student development allows young people to gain hands-on automotive experience through internships and real-world training opportunities. These programs not only introduce students to the workforce but also help connect them with local businesses where they can begin building meaningful careers.

Dallas understands that small businesses play an important role in workforce development — and his investment in Tucson’s youth reflects the kind of leadership that strengthens an entire community.

Sweetness With Purpose

Bake A Difference Cookie Shop — Owner: Ashley Brewer

What started as a passion for baking has grown into a business centered around compassion and giving back. Ashley Brewer, owner of Bake A Difference Cookie Shop, creates oversized 4-ounce gourmet cookies packed with flavor, creativity, and heart.

But what truly makes her business special is the mission behind every purchase. For every cookie sold, one dollar is donated to local nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the lives of animals.

Ashley’s commitment to community impact, combined with the quality of her products and entrepreneurial spirit, earned her the distinction of receiving the 2025 Pima County Small Business Awards Outstanding Small Business of the Year Award.

Her story is proof that business success and community compassion can go hand in hand.

A Legacy Sewn Together Through Relationships

Hem & Her Bridal Shop — Owners: Marv & Joyce Kirchler

The story behind Hem & Her Bridal Shop is rooted in determination, family values, and entrepreneurship. Joyce Kirchler came from a farming family, growing up among dairy cows and six brothers before making the journey west with little more than a sewing machine and a dream.

Today, Hem & Her has grown into a full-service bridal and formalwear destination serving customers not only throughout Southern Arizona, but across the United States, including Phoenix and Scottsdale. From wedding dresses and tuxedos to prom and graduation attire, the business has become part of countless milestone moments for families.

Marv Kirchler emphasized the importance of maintaining strong relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure quality inventory and dependable service for customers. He also shared valuable advice for families planning weddings or quinceañeras: start planning attire as early as possible to avoid unnecessary stress and allow time for proper fittings and selections.

Their story reflects the power of perseverance, partnership, and long-term relationship building.

Turning Tragedy Into Purpose

Havven Salon — Owner: Tammy Holman

Tammy Holman’s entrepreneurial journey began after a tragic life event shifted her perspective and inspired her to pursue a long-held dream. Leaving behind a career in education, she took a leap of faith and created what is now known as Havven Salon in Oro Valley.

What makes Havven unique is not only the salon experience itself, but Tammy’s passion for mentorship and education within the beauty industry. She believes strongly in helping aspiring stylists grow from beauty school students into thriving professionals. Through internship and assistant opportunities, Havven creates an environment where future stylists can gain confidence, technical skills, and real-world experience.

Tammy’s story is one of courage, reinvention, and the impact that mentorship can have on the next generation of entrepreneurs and creatives.

During National Small Business Week, we celebrate the entrepreneurs who not only build businesses but also build people, opportunity, and community. These four Southern Arizona businesses are shining examples of the impact small businesses have on our local economy and the lives around them.

From all of us with Southwest Flavor Podcast and the Pima County Small Business Commission — thank you for continuing to make Southern Arizona stronger, one business at a time.
