TUCSON, AZ (AUGUST 6, 2024) -- Columbus-based retailer Big Lots announced in a public June filing it would close 35-40 stores while opening three around the country, but it is now likely to shutter nearly ten times that number. The discount retailer, as of mid-Friday, lists 293 locations closing on its website—18 of which are in Arizona—as closing soon.
There are 34 Big Lots locations in Arizona. We first reported that 13 of these were set to close, and on August 2, another five locations, three of which were in Tucson, were added to the closures.
Big Lots says the store closings are due to financial issues faced by customers.
The company has not specified a specific date for the closings, but its website features a banner at the top of the screen touting an up to 20% off sale.
