
Bruce Wright, Associate Vice President UA Tech Park and the UA Tech Park at the Bridges projects will speak at the Southern Arizona Chapter CCIM meeting Tuesday, June 9th giving an update on the UA Tech Parks.
Responsible for both the University of Arizona Science and Technology Park (UA Tech Park) and the UA Tech Park at The Bridges, he is also founder and president of the Arizona Center for Innovation, a high technology business incubator, and president of Campus Research Corporation, which assists the University of Arizona in the development, operation, marketing, and leasing of its research parks.
Wright has more than 25 years of experience in the field of economic development. In 2001, he was named Arizona's Economic Developer of the Year by the Arizona Association for Economic Development.
Wright is a graduate of Willamette University where he earned his BA with distinction in political science and then attended graduate school at the University of Arizona.
Wright's research interests include regional economic development, international trade and business development, and technology development and commercialization.
During his 25 years at the University of Arizona, Wright has served as Director of the Office of Community and Public Service, Assistant to the President, Senior Officer for Community Affairs and Economic Development, and Associate Vice President for Economic Development.
Prior to joining the University, he served as Chief-of-Staff to U.S. Representative Morris K. Udall and as staff consultant to the House Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs. Previously, he was a management analyst with the City of Tucson and Deputy Director of the Commission on Improved Governmental Management.
Wright is a member of the International Economic Development Council, National Business Incubator Association, Arizona Association of Economic Development, Bioscience Leadership Council of Southern Arizona, and America-Israel Friendship League. He is also a member of the Southern Arizona Leadership Council and a board member of Tucson Regional Economic Opportunities, Inc.
Wright has extensive experience in research park development. He is a past president of the Association of University Research Parks and has assisted in the development of research parks and incubators in China and the Middle East when he was a member of the consulting team that prepared the development plan for Innovation Campus at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.
Wright has worked for many years on developing cross-border trade between Arizona and Mexico. He helped to develop a bi-national regional economic development plan for several governors of Arizona and Sonora. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Arizona-Mexico Commission and is a member of the Governor's CANAMEX Trade Corridor Task Force.
Active in numerous community organizations. He has served on the Regional Transportation Authority's Citizen's Advisory Committee. He is a member of the DM 50 and honorary commander with the 355th Operation Support Squadron at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.
Wright is also a co-founder of three high tech start-up companies, Arizona Microsystems and Focal Point Microsystems were sold to the 3M Corporation. Lumofle is based in Atlanta, Georgia.
