Economic Development Week
Presentation Of A Proclamation To Frank Dillon, Deputy Director, Pima County Economic Development, Proclaiming The Week Of May 4 Through May 8, 2026 To Be: "Economic Development Week In Pima County"

PIMA COUNTY (May 5, 2026) -- Economic development is often thought of simply as attracting new businesses, but in reality, it is much broader — and far more impactful.

At its core, economic development is about creating the conditions for a community to grow, thrive, and sustain a high quality of life. That includes supporting local businesses, attracting investment, building workforce pipelines, and ensuring infrastructure keeps pace with growth.

Pima County recently kicked off its celebration of Economic Development Week, May 4–8, 2026, by accepting a proclamation from the Pima County Board of Supervisors in partnership with community partners.

In Pima County, economic development efforts focus on strengthening key industries, including aerospace, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, and technology. By aligning education and training programs with industry needs, local leaders help residents access quality jobs while ensuring businesses have the skilled workforce needed to succeed.

Why does this matter? Strong economic development leads to more job opportunities, higher wages, and a more resilient local economy. It also supports improvements in roads, housing, and public spaces, making communities more attractive places to live and work.

Just as importantly, economic development fosters innovation and entrepreneurship, giving small businesses and startups the opportunity to grow and contribute to the local economy.

Ultimately, economic development is about building a sustainable future. It connects people to opportunity, supports businesses at every stage, and helps communities adapt to change. When done well, it creates a ripple effect, benefiting not just the economy but the overall well-being of residents for generations to come.
