Oro Valley, AZ - Town of Oro Valley Councilmember Mike Zinkin has been reappointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2016 Small Cities Council Steering Committee. The appointment was announced by NLC President Melodee Colbert-Kean, councilmember, Joplin, Missouri.
The Small Cities Council Steering Committee sets the pace for the full Small Cities Council and works with NLC to ensure small cities are a part of any legislative/advocacy agenda items. The Small Cities Council is made up of elected or appointed officials from communities less than 50,000 in population. The Council works to create visibility for small cities and to ensure that the interests of these communities are reflected in NLC's policies and programs. It also provides a forum for sharing ideas and best practices among smaller communities and serves as NLC’s voice for small cities.
Additionally, Councilmember Mike Zinkin was one of 23 individuals selected to serve as a 2016 National League of Cities University Leadership Fellow. The principal mission of the Leadership Fellows program is to support the NLC in its efforts to promote excellence and innovation in the arena of local government leadership development and local government leadership education.
As noted in a December 15, 2015 press release, Councilmember Zinkin was also been reappointed to the NLC 2016 Community and Economic Development Committee.
