100 Volunteers Needed for PACC’s Community Dog Walk on July 4th

PIMA COUNTY – This Independence Day, Pima Animal Care Center wants to give shelter dogs the liberty to go on a relaxing stroll or jog around the lake during a Community Dog Walk scheduled from 6 to 8 a.m. at PACC’s shelter, 4000 N. Silverbell Road.

Community members interested in participating have until July 2 to sign up. Volunteers can register online or email Gina Hansen, PACC’s volunteer coordinator, at gina.hansen@pima.gov. Registration is limited to the first 100 participants. Additionally, all dog walkers must be over the age of 16.

“Our pets love the attention they get during these community events,” said Hansen. “It helps them stay happy, healthy, and hopeful as they wait for their forever homes.”

Although the shelter is closed for the holiday, PACC will offer participants the opportunity to adopt their new walking buddy during this event. Adoption fees range between $0 to $50 and include the pets spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchip, and a free vet visit, too.

PACC staff will also have information on fostering opportunities for dog walkers who love their walking buddy, but just can’t commit to adopting them. PACC’s Homeward Hounds foster program helps medium and large dogs, over 35 pounds, get a much-needed break from shelter life by setting them up with a temporary home.

For additional information on fostering and more information on the July 4 Community Dog Walk, visit PACC’s website at pima.gov/animalcare.
