Tangerine Road Construction

MARANA (March 19, 2026) — The Town of Marana has launched “The Great Tangerine Squeeze,” a public awareness campaign aimed at keeping drivers informed as construction begins on a series of major improvements at the Tangerine Road and Interstate 10 interchange.

Several infrastructure upgrades have already been completed, including the widening of Tangerine Road and the addition of a new dedicated turn lane on the westbound off-ramp, increasing vehicle storage capacity and improving traffic flow.

The Town is partnering with the Arizona Department of Transportation to ease congestion, improve mobility, and prepare the corridor for continued growth.

Construction is now underway on the Eastbound Intersection Improvements, which include a new on- and off-ramp alignment. Beginning May 18, 2026, a two-week closure is planned to complete construction of the eastbound off-ramp, affecting Interstate 10 drivers traveling from Phoenix. During that time, drivers will be directed to use Marana Road or Avra Valley Road as alternate exits.

Starting in June 2026, work will begin on the Tangerine Road underpass abutment lanes in both directions. Motorists should expect changing traffic patterns, lane closures, and delays, and are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible. This phase is expected to be completed by March 2027.

Future Improvements

Additional work is planned as part of the Union Pacific Railroad crossing phase, which is now in final design. That phase will include intersection improvements, new traffic signal poles, railroad track expansion, and the opening of the newly constructed abutment lanes.

Construction of the railroad crossing improvements will require a temporary full closure of the Tangerine railroad crossing for approximately eight weeks, although the schedule for that closure has not yet been finalized.

Long-term plans for the interchange also include additional improvements that could involve further intersection upgrades and a future grade-separated crossing.

Keeping the Community Informed

The Great Tangerine Squeeze campaign will share updates through videos, social media, and project alerts to help drivers navigate construction and stay informed throughout each phase. Travelers can find the latest updates by following the Town of Marana’s social media channels and visiting the official project page at MaranaAZ.com/Squeeze.

Project timelines may be adjusted as needed to coordinate with outside agencies.

The project is being designed by Psomas and constructed by Borderland Construction Company. Portions of the Tangerine Road improvements are also being completed in conjunction with the Regional Transportation Authority.
