PIMA COUNTY (Dec. 20, 2023) – The Pima County Board of Supervisors Tuesday voted 3-1 to appoint Sylvia M. Lee, Ph.D., to join them on the Board and complete the former District 3 Supervisor Sharon Bronson's term. Bronson resigned in November after completing the third year of her seventh term as Supervisor. Lee will complete the final year of the term, which ends Dec. 31, 2024.
Lee will join the Board at its Jan. 9, 2024, meeting. She is a former District 3 Pima Community College Board member, serving from 2013 to 2018, including a term as Board Chair. She also worked as a PCC campus president and dean between 1996 and 2011, when she retired. She has lived in Pima County most of her life. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s degree in counseling, and a doctorate in educational leadership and policy.
In the letter of interest she submitted to the Board for appointment consideration, she wrote of her deep ties to Pima County.
“My family helped instill in me the importance of giving back to the community, as many of them were dedicated Pima County servants. My great aunt is the namesake of the Theresa Lee Pima County Health Center in Midvale Park; my cousin, Lorraine Lee, was the CEO of Chicanos Por La Causa in Tucson and served on the Pima County Board of Health; and my mother, Sophia (Pia) Lee, served as a Pima County Health Department nurse for 42 years, and served much of her career at the El Pueblo Neighborhood Center site,” she wrote to the Board.
The PCC District 3 boundaries mirror the boundaries for the Board district. Lee won election to the PCC board in 2012.
