Slice & Ice

TUCSON, AZ (August 5, 2025)  – In a transaction bringing a local dining legacy full circle, E & S Irving, LLC, led by longtime Tucson restaurateur Ed Irving, has purchased the former Eegee’s location at 6810 E. Tanque Verde Road for $1 million ($574 PSF) from Slush, Inc. of Tucson. The acquisition marks a major step in the expansion of Irving’s Slice & Ice restaurant brand, slated to open its second Tucson location in the coming months.

The building, long recognized as an Eastside staple under the Eegee’s banner, closed its doors in late 2024 following the company’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. The shutdown marked the end of an era for the property, which had served Tucson customers for decades under the frozen-drink and sub-sandwich chain co-founded by Irving in 1971.

This is a full-circle moment for Irving, who has lived near this location for years, and now gets to reimagine it as a Slice & Ice while keeping the tradition of locally-owned, family-friendly dining alive in this neighborhood.

Slice & Ice first opened on the West Side in 2020, offering a menu of handcrafted pizzas, hot subs, seasoned fries, and the brand’s signature icy drinks. The new Tanque Verde restaurant will build on that concept, with plans for updated interiors and an expanded menu designed to appeal to families and longtime Eastside customers. The property features ample parking and high visibility along one of Tucson’s busiest east-west corridors.

Renovations are already underway, with a mid-2025 opening targeted. Irving has hinted that the space will include nods to the building’s past while introducing a fresh look to launch the next chapter in his restaurant legacy.

The deal underscores a trend in Tucson’s retail market, where second-generation restaurant sites are increasingly sought after for redevelopment by local operators. Industry brokers note that former fast-food and quick-service restaurant properties are especially attractive to buyers seeking high-traffic locations with existing drive-thru infrastructure and kitchen buildouts.

With the purchase of 6810 E. Tanque Verde Road, E & S Irving, LLC not only reclaims a piece of Tucson’s dining history but also strengthens the homegrown brand’s presence on the city’s Eastside. The addition of this location is expected to bring dozens of new jobs to the area and provide another locally-owned dining option to the community.

Slice & Ice is located at 1905 W. Grant Rd., and the new location will be at 6810 E. Tanque Verde Rd. For more information, visit sliceandicetucson.com.
