TUCSON, ARIZONA – St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church bough 4.06 acres at 3939 N Alvernon Way in Tucson for $1.2 million ($6.79 PSF). The transaction closed on August 17, 2022.
Located at the base of the foothills, the site with just over 4 acres is zoned CR-1 with a 3,599 square-foot office building and a total of 6,100 square feet of modular mixed-use buildings, that were occupied until recently by the seller, KOL AMI Synagogue. The property sold for land value with a paved parking lot for 120 parking spaces. Facilities could continue to be used as a place of worship for the interim.
The congregation decided to sell and move after there was a fire at St. Demetrios’ current location, 1145 E Fort Lowell, in 2013 that left the church badly damaged. The former church property was auctioned on August 23rd as four separate parcels.
“The new location provides room for growth opportunities,” said William ‘Billy A’ Anastopoulos, the parish president. “The church looks forward to making more announcements about our new venue shortly.”
Thrac Paulette of Cantera Real Estate represented the seller of the land. Gary Andros with Andros Properties was representing the buyer.
