PIMA COUNTY, Dec. 22, 2022 - The Pima County Board of Supervisors at its Dec. 20 meeting voted unanimously to approve a 7.5 percent salary increase for corrections staff in the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. The pay increase takes effect Jan. 1, 2023.

The raises, which will cost approximately $1.7 million, are hoped to improve the Sheriff’s Department’s recruitment and retention efforts. Specifically, the pay increase affects the positions of corrections sergeant, corrections officer and corrections officer substitute. Corrections officers primarily work in the County jail.

Current corrections officer pay for Pima County is $22.58 an hour. The 7.5 percent salary increase would bring the hourly amount to $24.27. A corrections sergeant currently makes $29.25 per hour. The increase will move them to $31.44 per hour.

The increase will now move corrections officer pay above detention officers in Graham, La Paz, Navajo, Pinal, Yavapai and Yuma Counties. It will be nearly on par with Mohave County and slightly behind Maricopa County.

Sergeant pay will be similarly competitive, running ahead of the city of Phoenix, Mohave and Pinal Counties and slightly behind Maricopa County.
