Peoria, AZ (June 18, 2025) — The City of Peoria is moving forward with ambitious plans to transform Downtown Peoria into a vibrant cultural and commercial hub. With an investment of over $13 million, the revitalization effort aims to re-energize the city’s historic core by introducing new dining, entertainment, and public gathering spaces, while enhancing walkability and honoring the area’s heritage.

Anchoring the next phase of redevelopment are two new signature restaurants—Caldwell County BBQ and Jefferson House—slated to open in the heart of downtown. These additions reflect Peoria’s vision for a dynamic culinary scene that supports both local entrepreneurship and regional tourism.

“We’re creating a place where residents and visitors alike can enjoy a blend of history, culture, and modern amenities,” said Mayor Jason Beck. “This revitalization is about more than new buildings—it’s about building community.”

The city has prioritized streetscape improvements, including wider sidewalks, upgraded lighting, landscaping, and pedestrian-friendly design to encourage foot traffic and outdoor activity. Adaptive reuse of historic structures, such as the early 20th-century Central School, is also underway, with proposals to repurpose the site into a community arts venue.

The Peoria Center for the Performing Arts remains a cultural cornerstone of downtown and will be complemented by enhanced public spaces and mixed-use developments outlined in the city’s General Plan 2040.

Peoria’s revitalization strategy follows past public engagement efforts and reflects lessons learned from earlier redevelopment proposals. With fresh momentum, new development partners, and clear community backing, the City is on track to deliver a reimagined downtown that celebrates its past while embracing a more connected and inclusive future.
